Uganda Needs Martial Law To Guarantee Survival

As the death toll from the Corona Virus in the west continues to rise with latest figures from Italy pointing close to 1,000 deaths daily, Ugandans should forget their usual lackluster way of living if we are to stand any chance against this pandemic.

Whereas some people are condemning the security forces for being draconian, they are deliberately forgetting that our health care systems are not as well equipped as those in the west and therefore preventive measures should be emphasized with no compromise.

Even Abdu Katuntu concurs with this line of thinking. While appearing on the Capital gang he said, ” These aren’t easy times. It’s difficult for all of us even for government. We need drastic measures. Human nature is such that they take things for granted.”

The same people are the ones that will criticize authorities if our own death toll begins to climb only then we would have little control over events as we may have now. Other countries have opted for curfew to control the masses, we haven’t yet done so. This shows that the leadership is considerate to the livelihood of it’s citizens and there continued pursuit of survival and continuity.

Even President Yoweri Museveni in his latest address on Saturday morning expressed concern over community spread of the virus saying, that more drastic measures may be deployed to combat the pandemic.

This looks more likely than not and it maybe better if the measures are enforced sooner rather than later.
