The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued a stern warning to broadcasters, online publishers, bloggers, and other online media service providers against extortion and economic sabotage.

In an advisory statement issued on July 10, 2024, the UCC further warned against the spread of misinformation, illegal content, and false information.

UCC has obligated all media service providers to adhere to set standards and regulations.

“Those found guilty of such activities will be liable for prosecution,” the statement read in part.

The UCC is mandated to ensure that the media industry in Uganda operates with the highest standards of integrity and professionalism under the Uganda Communications Act of 2013, which regulates standards for published content in the country.

Recently, the UCC issued a one-month ultimatum to online media operators to get licensed before they could be shut down.
