The former prime minister of Uganda, Rt Hon. Amama Mbabazi, has said that the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) are the backbone of Uganda’s defence.
He commended UPDF’s courage, integrity, and deep sense of duty, which have helped build Uganda.
He made the remarks during the Thanksgiving service of Col Emmy Katabazi and his wife, Jackline Katabazi, who is Rubanda woman MP aspirant at their home in Kiwatule on February 24, 2024.
“In times of peace and in times of conflict, our military officers are the backbone of our country’s defence. They face challenges and dangers most of us can only imagine, and they do so with unwavering determination and selflessness,” he said.
“I’ve had the privilege of working firsthand with our military officers and witnessing firsthand the sacrifices they make to protect our nation and uphold our values,” he added.
The former premier stated that Col. Katabazi’s promotion is a testament to his unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and steadfast commitment to serving Uganda.
“You have earned the respect and admiration of the Commander in Chief, and I have no doubt you will continue to excel in your new role,” Mbabazi stated.
He urged the Colonel to lead with honour and humility to inspire those under his command.
The State Minister for Finance, Hon. Henry Musasizi, who also graced the occasion, congratulated Col. Katabazi on his promotion, stating that the promotion is well deserved.
In his remarks, the newly pipped colonel and Deputy Director of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Col. Katabazi, thanked the Commander in Chief, President Museveni, for his promotion and for recognising and rewarding the work of ISO.
“I want to thank my president and my Commander in Chief for recognising the work of ISO officers and promoting us,” he said.
He urged intelligence officers to always be truthful and ideologically sound.
He vowed to continue serving the country diligently and promised to continue to secure not only the country but the region as a whole.
Woman MP for Sheema district, Hon. Rosemary Nyakikongoro commended ISO for ensuring peace in Uganda, especially during the concluded summits of Speakers Conference, NAM, G77+China, and IGAD, among others. She stated that the summits were a success because of the security forces, who worked tirelessly to keep peace and order.
In his absence, Arch Bishop Paul Ssemwogerere sent a congratulatory message to the col through chancellor Dr. Pius Male, urging him and guests to love one another.
The ceremony was attended by ministers, MPs, senior military officers, and ISO staff among others.
