The territorial Police in Kigezi and Bunagana have intercepted and arrested a 29-year-old Allied Democratic Force (ADF) recruit.

According to SCP Fred Enanga, the spokesperson of the police, the suspect, identified as Ashiraf Ssempebwa, a farmer of Nakabiso village, Kavule Parish, Kiringente Sub-county, Mpigi district, was intercepted while trying to sneak into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to join the ADF rebel ranks.

“The territorial Police in Kigezi and Bunagana intercepted an ADF recruit, identified as Ashiraf Ssempebwa, a 29-year-old farmer of Nakabiso village, Kavule Parish, Kiringente Sub-county in Mpigi district, together with his wife, Nansamba Fatuma, aged 21, and their two children, aged 3 years and 6 months, respectively, while trying to sneak into the DRC and join the ADF rebel ranks,” said Enanga.

Enanga commended the Joint Security Task Teams for their efforts in arresting the suspected rebel recruit.

He further assured the public of the police’s continued use of their expertise and capabilities to counter all perpetrators of violent extremism against the country.

This comes after the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Congolese Army (FARDC) in a joint operation on Monday night killed 1 suspected ADF rebel and recovered 1 sub-machine gun, 1 mortar, 44 rounds of ammunition, and 4 military radios.
