PSFU Vows to Plant One Million Trees by 2025

The Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) has kicked off an initiative that will see different actors in the private sector plant over one million trees by 2025 as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

This was announced by the chairman of the board of directors of PSFU, Mr. Humphrey Nzeyi, at the Kampala Serena Hotel on December 6, 2023, at the 1st Private Sector Gala.

The gala was meant to recognise individuals, business associations, community groups, cooperatives, private companies, and government agencies that have significantly contributed to the growth and development of the private sector in Uganda.

While addressing the guests in his Key Note speech, Nzeyi said that the tree planting initiative is a testament to PSFU’s commitment to environmental sustainability and will not only contribute to mitigating climate change but also enhancing biodiversity and improving air quality.

“We have chosen to start with our environment, and so tonight we mark a significant milestone in PSFU’s journey as we launch our ambitious tree-planting initiative, where we are aiming to plant at least one million trees by 2025,” Nzeyi said.

“We are honoured to have KCCA and Uganda Baati join us in signing an MOU to champion this cause. Together, we can make a lasting impact on Uganda’s environment and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” Nzeyi added.

Nzeyi further urged guests present to each pick a tree seedling, take it home, and plant it for the bigger cause.

“In fact, we shall also invite those of you who want to participate to also plant trees. Our partner, Uganda Baati, has donated saplings, so feel free to pick one up on your way out. Please do post a picture once you have planted it so that we can keep a record,” Nzeyi added.

PSFU is Uganda’s apex body for the private sector and is made up of over 300 business associations, corporate bodies, and major public sector agencies that support private sector growth, with a diverse membership encompassing over 3.5 million business enterprises in Uganda.

The prestigious event brought together leaders from the government, representatives of different government agencies, diplomats from different embassies, private sector actors, civil society, members of the media fraternity, and the general public.
