President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) to focus on improving service delivery across the country rather than just gathering population statistics.

The President made this remark while officially inaugurating the National Population and Housing Census 2024 at Kololo Independence Grounds on December 12, 2023.

He emphasized the importance of the exercise in bridging gaps in service delivery.

“This comprehensive approach will ensure that resources and assistance are distributed effectively to those in need,” said the president.

The President stated that by understanding the population’s size, distribution, and characteristics, the government will be better able to plan and provide equitable services to all Ugandans.

The President has designated May 10, 2024 as a public holiday and urged citizens to actively participate in the census.

Uganda conducts a national census every ten years, with the most recent one taking place in 2014.
