AIP Egwang David, a police officer attached to Counter Terrorism tactical Naguru, shot his wife dead with a pistol at the Jinja Road police barracks where they have been staying.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, in a press release on September 5, 2023, said that Jinja Road Police arrested the police officer on allegations of murder by shooting that happened at the barracks.
“It is alleged that today, at around 1715 hours, AIP Egwang David, a police officer attached to Counter Terrorism tactical Naguru, shot his wife dead with a pistol while at the Jinja Road police barracks where they have been staying,” said Onyango.
He added that the deceased wife was identified as corporal (Cpl) Atino Jennifer, attached to the Very Important Person Protection Unit of Police (VIPPU) at Parliament.
According to Onyango, the motive for the shooting is suspected to be domestic violence.
The suspect, AIP Egwang, is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Division awaiting interrogation.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
