Uganda Police is hunting for yet to be identified People Power goons suspected to be behind the ‘crucifixion’ of a one Baker Kasumba, a resident of Kivuulu in Kawempe Division, who hammered 6-inch nails in his hands.
In his statement at Kibe Police Post in Kalerwe, a Kampala surburb, Kasumba says he was nailed by thugs who accused him of wearing a yellow beret, commonly used by the National Resistance Movement-NRM party activists. He says they wanted to kill but later told him they would instead teach him a lesson he would never forget because he shows too much love to his party.
The attackers joined his palms together, placed his NRM Party beret in the middle and used a hammer to drive the nails through his hands.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, says police have launched a manhunt for the culprits.
By Press time, the Kawempe Division Police Commander – DPC, Denis Odoch and Officer in Charge of Kaleerwe police station, Twahir Kasembeza were at the scene of crime trying to reconstruct the scene.
Kasumba is getting treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital where doctors have successfully removed the nails from his hands.
The leader of the violent and non tolerant People Power movement Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has released a statement that suggested to condone the violence in which he attacked Police of giving unreliable information to the public which he said made them skeptical to believe if Kasumba was really attacked or the story is another Police concoction.
