The police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, has revealed that Police sniffer dogs are free of charge to all Ugandans and no payment should be made for their services.

While addressing the press at Naguru police headquarters, Enanga emphasised that police have gotten complaints that some dogs are charged, saying that it’s important for people to know that the services provided are entirely free. He continued to praise them for their role in the successful arrest of over 6,843 criminals who were captured in a period of five months.

He boasted of the effectiveness of police sniffer dogs to track scents and trace the directions of suspects, leading to more successful arrests.

This follows Uganda Police’s implementation of the deployment of Police dogs in all districts and regions over the past five months; hence, the force has achieved remarkable success nationwide.

“Those arrested by police dogs include 5,686 males, 717 females, 352 male juveniles, and 88 female juveniles from January to March 2023,” Enanga said.

He further noted that the force also deployed narcotics and explosive detective dogs. Police sniffer Dogs registered the successful capture of over 6,000 criminals; the dogs were also used to respond to calls of abandoned items and suspicious objects at Entebbe International Airport.
