The leaders of boda boda operators in Rubaga division, Kampala, in collaboration with the Uganda police, have embarked on an operation to wipe out machete-wielding operations.

The operation aims to clear the area of boda boda riders linked to the suspected robbers terrorizing local people.

Ibrahim Kamya, the leader of boda boda riders in Rubaga division, said the operation stemmed from several cases of attacks orchestrated by the suspected machete-wielding robbers in the area.

Kamya cited the Busega area as the most affected in Rubaga Division. He added that the operation targets even hard-core criminals who disguise themselves as boda boda riders in the night.

Kamya noted that the criminals are always in a group of three people on a boda boda and use five boda bodas whenever they carry out the brutal and heinous acts of robbing and attacking people.

He warned all boda boda riders in Rubaga division that the operations against the criminal gangs and every boda boda operator should move the national identity card.

The Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the police are working closely with the boda boda leaders to identify these criminals, gather intelligence, and ensure those who carry these deadly weapons and disguise as boda riders yet are hard-core criminals and robbers are brought to justice.

ASP Owoyesigyire added that this collaborative effort seeks not only to address the immediate threat posed by machete-wielding robbers but also to foster a safer environment for all boda boda riders and the community at large.

The collaboration between boda boda leadership and law enforcement is vital in identifying and apprehending those who disguise themselves as riders to commit crimes.
