President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked Ugandans to adopt modern farming strategies under the famous four-acre model approach to create wealth.

While addressing the first regional parliamentary plenary sitting in Gulu City on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, President Museveni advised farmers to desist from growing tea, cotton, and sugarcane, saying it takes a long to mature.

Under this approach, the president said modern farming can successfully be carried out within the four acres of land, including fruits, dairy, poultry, and coffee productions.

The president said the old cash crops can only bring huge profits when grown on a large scale, and few rural farmers can do that.

President Museveni also called on the MPs to stop the old politics of sectarianism, corruption mixed with carelessness, and individualism.

He says they (MPs) should adopt the principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government that entail responsibility, discipline, ideology, and realism in budgeting.

“There is a need to focus on critical areas, and specifically on enhancing homestead incomes. Go and mobilize our people to grow coffee, fruits, cassava, poultry, piggery, and fish farming,” said President Museveni.

He also called upon the leaders and the technocrats to always endeavor to mathematically explain to the local people the benefits of growing certain food crops.

The regional parliamentary sitting in Gulu City will end on Friday, August 30th, 2024.
