The joint security team of Uganda police, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), intelligence agencies, and local council leaders in a joint operation have arrested 36 suspects in possession of narcotic drugs and reportedly involved in criminal activities in Kagala zone, Goma division in Mukono district.

In a police statement released on October 31, 2024, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said that the operation targeted black spots known for harboring individuals involved in smoking and selling narcotic drugs.

“A total of 36 male suspects believed to be behind criminal activities were arrested from the identified black spots, and several narcotic drugs, including marijuana, were seized,” Onyango said.

He affirmed that police, together with other security agencies, will continue to carry out targeted intelligence-led operations to ensure public safety and security.

Reports indicate an increase in criminal cases in Goma division, Mukono district, with residents expressing concerns about safety and security. As a result, the pressure from rising crime rates has prompted some locals to carry out mob justice.
