Abraham Kithure Kindiki has been sworn in as the third deputy president of the Republic of Kenya in a ceremony that took place on November 1, 2024, at the Kenyatta International Conventional Center (KICC).
Kindiki’s ascension to office follows the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua on October 17, 2024, for issuing statements demeaning the state office and the person of the judiciary.
Clad in a black suit, white shirt, and red tie, heeding the Chief Justice’s call, Deputy President Kindiki pledged his allegiance to diligently serve the people of Kenya before proceeding to sign the oath of allegiance as a sole reminder of the oath.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, the gentle-spoken Kindiki thanked the President of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto, for the opportunity to serve under his exemplary leadership.
“Nothing in the political space has helped me to pick up lessons more than the years that I have walked and served around you in various capacities,“ he said.
Ruto congratulated Kithure upon his assumption of a new position in public service.
He praised the new statesman as a patriot whose dedication to cohesion, national unity, and inclusivity was beyond reproach, describing him as “an effective champion of peace and stability.”
Ruto told Kithure to serve the nation without bias and ill-will and encouraged Kithure to implement his allegiance and affirm his readiness to serve the people and the country.
He, however, cautioned the public servants against selfish and sectarian tendencies but prioritized the service and the interests of the Kenyan people.
“Let us serve the people of the Republic of Kenya. We are not here to serve ourselves, our families, our communities, regions, or our villages. We are here to serve the Republic of Kenya and the people of Kenya,” Ruto remarked.
Kithure joined public service as the cabinet secretary of interior and administration of the Kenyan national government before his appointment as deputy president.
Kindiki’s swearing-in ceremony was graced by high dignitaries, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, US Ambassador Meg Whitman, and UK’s Neil Wigan, among others.
