The Minister for Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, on behalf of the Ministry of Health, has launched the Wondfo HIV self-test kit for men.

Aceng described the Wondfo HIV self-test kit as another tool in the HIV testing armoury, which is essential for HIV prevention and control efforts.

“The Wondfo HIV self-test kit has demonstrated its ability to offer high-quality HIV test results here in Uganda. It is an additional tool in our arsenal for HIV testing, which is key for HIV prevention and control interventions,” Aceng said.

She appreciated Wondfo Biotech Company Limited and their local partner, Microhaem Group of Companies, for partnering with Uganda to strengthen HIV testing services.

According to Aceng, the kit will be manufactured in Uganda by local partner Microhaem and will be available in Uganda and the rest of Africa.

“I was glad to learn of the one-dollar ($1) access partnership between MedAccess UK Limited, CHAI, and Wondfo Biotech that made the Wondfo HIV self-test kit affordable,” Aceng said.

She added that the Wondfo HIV self-test kit offers high-quality HIV test results, was pre-qualified by the World Health Organisation (WHO), and was evaluated at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, where it showed high results of efficiency.

The minister also launched the self-test campaign for men in Kampala. The campaign is aimed at increasing testing services among men to determine their HIV status.

Aceng appealed to all men to ensure they use these test kits to test themselves for HIV because knowing their status is important.
