The Minister of Lands, Judith Nabakooba, has ordered the Buikwe District Land Board to revoke all land titles that were wrongfully granted to three individuals on property at Njeru Municipality’s Kikondo Cell.

The impacted individuals and the minister met in Buikwe on October 23, where the minister delivered the directions.

According to the ministry’s registration system, Nicholas Bonanebye, Moses Buyondo, and Irene Birah Nakkungu claim land measuring 74 acres, 44 acres, and 30 acres, respectively.

“Cancel the land titles and write a letter to the ministry so that the registrar can make changes to the documents. I am going to write to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the Police Land Protection Unit to find out who was behind this so that they can account for violating the law,” Nabaakoba said.

In addition, she gave the District Land Board Chairperson and the RDC two weeks to record the land’s history and operations and submit a report to her outlining a course of action.

Diana Mutasingwa, the female MP for Buikwe District who advocated for the minister’s participation, praised Nabakooba for giving the locals hope.

“These people have been fighting the fraudulent acquisition of land titles for their land they have settled on for a long time. The land grabbers have been threatening them with eviction, which we cannot accept,” she told the minister.

This came after a report from the Kikondo cell chairperson, Bruhan Mulongo, who stated that the situation in his area had gotten worse two years prior when land occupants who were interested in obtaining titles were shocked to learn that the land had already been taken by people they did not know, and they were curious as to how they had obtained the titles on disputed land.
