The Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) is set to construct over 40 modern public toilets.

This was announced by the KCCA Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka, while presiding over the celebration to mark World Toilet Day held at Nakawa Market on Saturday, November 19th, 2002.

Kisaka said the initiative would ease pressure on the existing facilities and improve sanitation within the city.

This year’s World Toilet Day celebration was conducted under the theme “Making the Invisible Visible.”

According to Kisaka, the facilities will be constructed under the Kampala-Lake Victoria Sanitation Project (K-LVWATSAN) in all five divisions of Kampala City.

“I am excited to inform you that we are finalizing engagements and planning with our partner agency, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, who, with support from development partners, shall be implementing the Kampala-Lake Victoria Sanitation Project (K-LVWATSAN). Through this project, over 40 modern public toilets will be constructed in all five divisions,” she said.

She noted that this is part of the wider initiatives to build a smart city, a transformational initiative that will change the way in which the city functions to make Kampala more inclusive, safe, sustainable, efficient, and resilient, and ultimately a better place to live, work, and play.

Kisaka explained that the smart city initiative is centered on leveraging technology and infrastructure for people’s well-being in the city’s growth and development.

In commemoration of World Toilet Day, officials from KCCA led the ED in cleaning community sanitary facilities across the five divisions.
