The 6’5 towering quiet boxer whose eloquent speech is made in the ring with his hard right hand fists has fought in the amateur heavyweight category while boxing out of the Kampala Boxing Club for three years, winning the national open title in 2016 and All Africa gold, although he missed the recent Gold Coast 2018.

The former gold medalist Shafik Kiwanuka whom the Explorer news found at Hotel African gym over the weekend in his early preparation for the big NRM Liberation Day boxing event scheduled for January 26, 2019 against Kenyan opponent Obadiah Mwangi.

“It is a great opportunity in my professional career to be part of the Big Strikers Boxing promotions a top company that has made several boxers that captured world titles. I place my focus on getting in the ring and giving everything,” Kiwanuka said.

He has had a successful amateur career by ruling the heavyweight division and the remarkable one being the Commonwealth Games in Australia, where he punished and floored his opponents with a powerful right punch that has since earned him the name ‘Killing Machine’.

“Though we have lost many of the good boxers that we had groomed to foreign companies, Kiwanuka’s style is very unusual he trains hard and is fiercely an ambitious young man that is eager to learn every day, His commitment shows how dedicated he is to becoming a star which is vital for our promotion company.” said Emmanuel Mwesigwa, the spokesperson of Big Strikers.
