The Ministry of Health has released a list of medical interns under revised terms as guided by the government.

According to a press statement dated July 27, 2023, the Ministry of Health has gained approval for 1,901 medical interns to be posted at the country’s 58 internship centres.

The decision comes after weeks of protests by pre-medical interns who have been demanding immediate government action.

According to Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the Director General of Health Services, the government will deploy 1,901 medical interns within the available budget for a net monthly allowance of Shs1,000,000 for accommodation and feeding.

“The government will therefore deploy the 1,901 medical interns within the available budget at a net monthly allowance of UGX 1,000,000 (one million shillings only) per intern to facilitate accommodation and feeding,” said Mwebesa.

He stated that the different hospital directors will arrange for the interns’ induction and issue them with the deployment letters.

However, all medical interns are expected to report to their various training centres by August 3, 2023.

The administration had previously stated financial difficulties as the reason for the delay in deploying the interns.
