Greedy MPs Demand For Share of Covid Money

A section of Members of Parliament represented by Opposition stalwart, Latif Ssebagala have demanded government to give them a share of the supplementary budget to fight Covid-19 pandemic so as for them to contribute in the fight.

This does not come as a shock though it is surprising that they took long to break out of their shell and reveal their true selves in the light of the global tragedy.

The request comes hardly a week after one of the MPs, Lutamaguzi went off script and requested that the speaker of Parliament, Rebbeca Kadaga deduct two million shillings from each MP as contribution to the fight monthly. His call predictably fell on deaf ears as no other parliamentarian offered or seconded the proposal.

A number of sectors at the forefront of the Covid fight are expected to receive additional funding in their efforts to restrict the impact of the disease outbreak on the country.

Parliamentarians have always been greedy and displayed a lack of empathy towards Ugandans in such situations always looking for new ways to enhance their earnings and draining of the national coffers.

Surprisingly, the Speaker of Parliament also pushed a question of the role of MPs in the fight against Covid-19 to the Prime Minister in an effort to extract a response from him. This is just embarrassing not forgetting MPs are some of the people who refused to be taken into institutional quarantine after traveling from high risk countries.

All parties interested in contributing to the fight were advised by the President to give the help to the national Taskforce and I would expect the MPs to do the same.
