The Ministry for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees has asked people living in mountainous areas to vacate and relocate in safety places.

The State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, Esther Anyakun, says the Office of the Prime Minister is ready to support  the affected persons with relief items.

“The office of the prime minister is aware there has been cumulative rain and it is at its peak, so people need to vacate flood-prone areas that may cause them death. Go to the nearest churches and schools for shelter. OPM will come with relief in both food and non-food items to support you,” she said.

Minister Anyakun appreciated local leaders through the district disaster management committee for ensuring that some people were safely evacuated.

The heavy rains that were previously communicated by the Uganda Meteorological Authority have affected people who live in mountainous areas like the Rwenzori and Elgon areas.
