The president of the opposition party, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Patrick Amuriat Oboi, has commended the great work done by security forces in 2022.

In his end-of-year press briefing held at party head quarters in Najjanankumbi, Eng. Amuriat revealed that the year 2022 saw the resurrection of high insecurity, especially led by the rebel group of Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and intercommunity skirmishes in the Karamoja region, coupled with cattle rustling, which were all handled by the UPDF and sister security agencies.

“Security did a great job to keep the whole country at peace even though there were just a few elements of human rights violations during enforcement of the law and order with the suspects, some injured, others put out of action, but all in all the country is calm,” he said.

He added, “As FDC, we believe a lasting holistic solution with political will in hindsight is dialogue of warring factions, social economic interventions by IGAD member states, which would be the case of ushering the whole region into transformation other than embarking on arms disarmament campaigns, which have been on going forever.”

The last quarter saw a series of Security Forces attacks by unknown assailants, mostly in areas of Luwero where some security operatives lost their lives.

This led to the top leadership of the Uganda Police Force resorting to the merger of numerous police posts in an effort to protect their officers’ lives from errant attacks.

The vacuum left behind in these areas has made them more susceptible to criminality, especially in these times of economic hardship faced nation-wide, so some criminal elements are taking advantage of the situation to terrorise the communities.

Recently, President Museveni addressed the nation, naming the ADF and some opposition leaders who had masterminded such attacks.
Some of the culprits have been arrested and detained.
