πΊπ¬ Posho dealers vow not to lend schools food as schools demand zero fees balance
πThe sellers of posho and beans along Kisenyi Kafumbe Mukasa road have said that they will also not accept to lend any school food since the schools are also demanding for zero balance from students before they can access education services. One Ssalongo Lule, a posho dealer in Kisenyi saysΒ maize is scarce and this has caused its prices to increase.
πΊπ¬ Deputy Speaker orders report on rampant school dropouts
πThe Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has ordered the Parliamentary committee on education to make a report on why many children drop out of school. This was after a report that showed that out of the total number of pupils who were in school in 2016, only 32% of them were able to sit PLE after 68% dropped out.
πΊπ¬ Makindye Division leaders question KCCA over fuel
πLeaders of Makindye Division led by Speaker Charles Lubba have written to KCCA demanding to know how much fuel they are supposed to be given to carry out their work. The leaders sayΒ they have not received any fuel since October last year. They had a meeting at Buziga Country Resort where the councillors explained that lots of work like garbage collection is at a standstill because there is no fuel.

πUganda National Bureau of Standard (UNBS) Executive Director David Livingstone Ebiru has urged school heads to be careful because contaminated food has flooded the market. Ebiru said they have intensified operations to crack down on dealers of substandard food.
πΊπ¬ Government to fund family planning as donors curb funds
πThe Government will now fund family planning as donors curb funding family planning initiative in Uganda. According to Dr. Charles Olaro, the Director of Curative Services at the Ministry of Health, the Government will look for resources in addition to the 25% of the national medical stores budget dedicated to procurement of these commodities. This was during the release of the landscape study findings on domestic funding for family planning commodities and supplies by faith for family health initiative.

πThe Vice President Rtd. Major Jessica Alupo, while passing out Uganda Development Bank staff members emphasised implementing ideological orientation for leaders as key in attaining the middle-income status in Uganda. The staff were trained in transformative leadership at theΒ National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi. The training intends to produce leaders who are ideologically versed in Patriotism, Pan Africanism, socio-economic transformation and democracy.
πΊπ¬ URA releases half year 2022/2023 financial results
πUganda RevenueΒ Authority (URA) has released a half year plan ofΒ financial year 2022/2023, where Uganda Revenue Authority is expected to collect UGX 25.151 trillion out of the National Budget of 49.99 trillion Uganda shillings. In the last six months, URA collected UGX 11.764 trillion representing 46.4% of the financial target. Whereas there was a shortfall of UGX 94.8 billion, the general performance was 99.19% which shows a substantial growth in revenue growth of UGX 1.506 trillion compared to the same period last year.
πΊπ¬ Uganda Breweries ask Government to check unregulated alcohol business
πThe Managing Director Uganda Breweries Limited, Andrew Kilonzo has advised the Government to ensure that dealers in unregulated alcohol formalise business because alcoholΒ is a large revenue producer. He said that eradicating unregulated alcohol will promote regulated drinking and solving the problem arising from alcohol addiction. This was during the commissioning of their breweries 39.9 billion production line.

πThe Ministry of finance planning and economic development has disbursed 399 million shillings for the completion of the Namisindwa district local government headquarters. πΊπ¬ KYOTERA: 14 year old girl defiled and impregnated by teacher
πPolice Spokesperson Fred Enanga has said that Mugumira Silver, a primary school teacher at Nile Citizen Junior Primary School in Kalisizo Kyotera, defiled a 14-year-old pupil during school holidays and made her pregnant. Mugumira who is under Police custody will be charged in Courts of law.

π KENYA: Stateless Pemba community recognized as Ethnic Group
πKenyaβs Government has officially recognized the stateless Pemba community as an ethnic group. In a gazette notice, President William Ruto said the decision was taken after considering petitions by various parliamentary committees pushing for the recognition of the community. The decision has been welcomed by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and human rights groups who have been pushing for their recognition.
π SOUTH SUDAN: UN concerned by militia build-up in Upper Nile State
πThe UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has expressed concern about the latest reports of a build-up of ethnic-linked militia known as Agwelek in Upper Nile state in the north of South Sudan. It has appealed to national and community leaders to exercise restraint and commit to peace and dialogue.
βThe mission urges the forces, loyal to General Johnson Olony, to refrain from any actions or movements that might pose threats to civilians and affect humanitarian operations,β UNMISS said on Wednesday.
π MALAWI: President Chakwera reduces size of Cabinet in the recent reshuffle
πMalawi President Lazarus Chakwera reduced the size of his Cabinet in the recent reshuffle that saw the appointment of seven new faces including an Opposition lawmaker. The number of ministers and deputy ministers has been reduced from 33 to 27, but critics say it is still too large. The reshuffle was expected following reports that a number of ministers were implicated in a corruption investigation being carried out by Malawiβs Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the UKβs National Crimes Agency.
