πΊπ¬ President Museveni wants NEC to establish mini industrial park at Kakiri
πPresident Museveni has tasked the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) to consider acquiring more land in Kakiri, Wakiso District for Government to establish a mini-industrial park. NEC, through its subsidiary NEC UZIMA Limited occupies about ten acres in Kakiri Military barracks but the President says this could be expanded to at least 100 acres to harbour other industries. This was during the commissioning of NEC UZIMA’s new production plant.
πΊπ¬ Serere County voters cast their ballots, voting goes well
π Voters in Serere County haveΒ today February 23Β cast their ballots to determine the next MP who will replace the late Member of Parliament Patrick Okabe who died in a road crash in December. Ms Sylvia Cheptegei Nangendo, the returning officer for Serere District, said that despite a few setbacks, voting went on well. Police officers could be seen aiding some two elderly women to cast their ballots.

πKenya and Uganda have agreed on cooperation between the two countries to ensure the success of the ongoing disarmament exercise in Kenyaβs North Rift. This resolution was agreed upon on Monday following a joint high-level security meeting held in Moroto District. Rtd Maj Gen. Jim Muhwezi, the Minister of Security says the two countries agreed on the need to work together to prevent owners of illegal firearms from fleeing into Uganda as Security agencies close in on them.
πΊπ¬ Uganda and Ukraine discuss bilateral relations
πAs the UN General Assembly met on Wednesday, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held their first bilateral discussion on potential for the development of relations between their countries.Β Zelensky took to Twitter to express that he had outlined the Ukrainian peace initiatives at the UN, and that they had also discussed the potential for bilateral relations.
βI am glad to have the first conversation in the history of bilateral relations with the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. I spoke about Ukrainian peace initiatives at the UN. We also talked about the potential for developing bilateral relations,β Zelensky said.
πΊπ¬ Government to implement public health law
πThe Public Health (Amendment) Act, 2022 in Uganda will enforce stiffer penalties on those who violate its provisions, including jail terms of up to one year or a fine of Shs5 million or even both. The legislation, which was approved by President Museveni on February 8, gives the Government the power to act against violators of public health, such as parents who refuse to vaccinate their children. It also requires individuals to report outbreaks of unusual diseases and disclose contacts.
πΊπ¬ URA initiates clear passenger guidelines at Entebbe Airport
πThe Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has issued new passenger rules at Entebbe International Airport in an effort to combat corruption to increase tax compliance. The new guidelines provide clarity on the procedures at the arrivals section, guide on taxable and non-taxable items, restricted items, and illegal items that a traveller may arrive in the country with. Vianney Lugya, the CAA communications Manager, stated that with the new URA guidelines, passengers with nothing to declare to customs or with baggage consisting of only goods within the prescribed passenger allowance shall exit the passenger terminal through the green channel.

π KENYA: PresidentΒ slams Azimio leaders over mass demonstration threats
πPresident William Ruto has slammed Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition Party leader Raila Odinga following his remarks of organising mass action if the Government does not lower the cost of living. Speaking on Wednesday during the launch of the Nairobi River Commission, the President told off the Opposition team saying they could organise as many rallies as they possibly can, but his administration would still remain undeterred.
π NIGERIA: Senate candidate shot dead, body burnt
πA Nigerian Senatorial candidate was on Wednesday shot dead and his body burnt by attackers while on his way from a campaign rally in the southern state of Enugu. The death of Oyibo Chukwu of the Labour Party happened three days to Saturdayβs general elections which are being described as the countryβs most competitive polls in 24 years. His aides who were with him were also shot dead before their car was set ablaze with the bodies inside.
