The Ministry of Education and Sports has warned schools and other institution administrators against cutting short school terms without written permission from the ministry.
This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Sports, Dr. Kedrace Turyagenda.
Turyagenda, while appearing before the press, noted that the ministry has released the official 2025 school calendar for primary and secondary institutions, detailing key reporting dates for learners at various levels, including those transitioning to new classes, to enhance proper planning for both the parents and the schools.
‘‘Teaching and learning should start exactly at the beginning of each term, and the school terms should not be cut short without prior permission from the concerned authorities,’’ she said.
According to the schedule, Primary Seven and Senior Four who sat for the 2024 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) will join Senior One on February 10, 2025, and Senior Five on February 24, 2025.
The ministry noted, “Term one will begin on February 10, 2025, and run until May 2, 2025. The second term will commence on May 26 and end on August 22, while the third term will start on September 15 and end on December 5, 2025.”
Technical and vocational institutions such as nursing and midwifery schools are expected to begin their academic year on January 25, 2025, and conclude on June 27, 2025. Other institutions are to start on February 3, 2024, and end on June 27, 2025.
Turygyenda further urged schools and institutions from Kampala metropolitan areas to stagger reporting dates for different classes during the closing and opening of school terms to mitigate traffic congestion in the city.
