CDF Meets Japan’s Chief of Staff to Strengthen Uganda-Japan Military Ties

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has met with Gen Yoshihide Yoshida, the Chief of Staff of the Japan Self-Defence Force, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Ichigaya, Tokyo, to enhance military cooperation between the two states.

The two Generals held discussions on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, focusing on enhancing military collaboration between Uganda and Japan, building on previous meetings that included a session with Fujii Hisayuki, Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, that was held on Monday, November 25, 2024.

According to the statement from the office of the CDF, the discussions focused on “enhancing military cooperation and strengthening defense relations between the two nations.”

Both countries hope to strengthen their collaboration in order to successfully handle regional issues as they get ready for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which is set for August 2025.

During the Monday, November 25, 2024, meeting, Gen Muhoozi, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, expressed gratitude towards Japan’s continued support in areas of infrastructural development and education.

Minister Fujii underlined the significance of education and infrastructure development while restating Japan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.

Additionally, the duo discussed the importance of fostering peace and stability in the Horn of Africa as well as concerns related to worldwide security.
