The Ugandan superstar is nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category for his ‘Gimme Love’ single with American R&B artiste Matt B. In the same category, he is to face off with other stars including Nigerian superstar Burna Boy with his Last hit, and Rocky Dawuni and Blvk H3ro (Ghana) with Neva Bow Down. The award ceremony is slated for 5th February 2023 in Los Angeles, USA.
Kenzo is yet to join the class of the very few Africans to ever win this award which include Angélique Kidjo from Benin, South Africans (The Soweto Gospel Choir, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Black Coffee) and Burna Boy from Nigeria.
This isn’t Kenzo’s first international award nomination as the singer has received various nominations and accolades internationally. Kenzo first received international recognition in 2015 after his single, “Sitya Loss” whose viral video earned him a BET Award. The award is also Uganda’s and East Africa’s first BET Award to date.
“From BET winner to now a Grammy Award Nominee. If this doesn’t make you proud to support Eddy Kenzo what will? Congratulations Uganda, Congz Eddy Kenzo,” said Douglas Lwanga.
Kenzo was also the first Ugandan to be nominated and win the Nickelodeon Awards.
