Under the old Covenant of Israel, prophets were called to preach the gospel, and at times they painted God’s message on the canvasses of their own lives. Just like other prophets, Hosea was called upon to minister to God’s kingdom of Israel.
However, in Hosea’s case, we observe an analogy concerning his marriage and family. Hosea, a righteous man, was first commanded by God to marry a prostitute (Gomer) and an adulteress who was in love with another man.
The two were blessed with three children and named them at God’s command. The firstborn was named JEZREEL, the second was named LO-RUHANAH (no mercy or not your God), and the third was named LO-AMMI (not my people). These names reveal the then-God’s relationship with the people of Israel whom he chose as his race.
A similar scenario, though political and not spiritual, is Dr. Besigye’s relationship with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). The “one people, one Uganda” political party for over two decades has been at the helm of Uganda’s politics and probably the leading political party.
Just like Hosea’s relationship with Gomer, Besigye has been unfaithful to FDC despite serving as the party president for close to two decades. After the 2016 general elections, Besigye’s commitment to FDC declined, and he publicly expressed how he was angry and disappointed for not participating in the 2021 presidential race.
Ever since then, Besigye has openly employed the destructive spirit of if I can’t have it, you won’t have it either, against the party he crafted and cherished. In 2012, when he left the FDC leadership, the four-time presidential candidate remained lurking around the party corridors to undermine his successors.
The famous one people, one Uganda, is now the same but with different political ideologies and factions all fronting personal interests without considering party interests.
Besigye and his children (Lukwago, Ssemuju, and Nyanjura) and others, just like Hosea’s children, who were rebellious and supportive of their mother’s adulterous acts, are committed to finishing FDC and establishing a new political apparatus that would favor their interests.
