Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Hails Uganda-Zimbabwe Military Ties

The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, Lieutenant General Sam Okiding, has lauded the enduring and historic military ties between Uganda and Zimbabwe, emphasizing the shared experiences and similarities that unite the two nations.

Lt. Gen Okiding, while addressing the Directing Staff and Student Officers attending the Joint Command and Staff Course from the Zimbabwe Staff College on August 5, 2024, highlighted Zimbabwe’s pivotal role in shaping the careers of numerous officers within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). The team had visited the Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya.

“Zimbabwe has been instrumental in providing training courses that have significantly contributed to the professional development of UPDF personnel,” Lt. Gen. Okiding said.

Group Captain Morris Mujikwa, head of the Zimbabwean delegation, noted the importance of comprehensive security for the survival of humanity.

He highlighted the necessity for African nations to collaborate through regional frameworks, advocating for a unified approach to tackle common security challenges.

Both nations pledged to continue building on their historical ties, with an emphasis on collaboration and shared security goals, which remain key and vital in addressing the evolving challenges faced by African countries.
