In an impressive display of preparedness and responsiveness, a team from the Ministry of Health (MoH) swiftly provided medical assistance and support to concert-goers following an unfortunate incident at the Fally Ipupa concert, held at the Sheraton Gardens in Kampala on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Despite the heavy downpour, enthusiastic attendees from various countries, including Uganda, Congo, Kenya, and Tanzania, had flocked to the venue since 4:00 pm.

As the crowd eagerly awaited Fally Ipupa’s performance, the situation took a turn for the worse when a wooden stair that some concert-goers were using to gain a better view collapsed, resulting in a domino effect of individuals falling on top of one another. One Congolese national sustained injuries from exposed nails, while a Ugandan attendee, Rosette Akello, had her legs broken due to the sheer number of people falling on her small body.

Promptly responding to the incident, a medical professional from MoH, Adam Mubarak, who was present at the event, quickly provided first aid to the injured. Mubarak revealed that the MoH had proactively deployed personnel to large-scale events like this, ensuring their ability to effectively handle contingencies such as medical emergencies and cases of fainting.

“The Ministry of Health has always been on the ground whenever there are events that attract a significant number of people,” affirmed Mubarak.

The concert-goers who expressed concern and continuously checked on the injured victims expressed their gratitude towards the Ministry of Health for considering the uncertainties inherent in crowd gatherings and extending their vital services. MoH further bolstered their preparedness by having an ambulance on standby, ready to transport any concert-goer requiring urgent medical attention to the hospital.

This incident serves as a testament to the MoH’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being and safety of the public during large-scale events. Their proactive approach, swift response, and presence on-site have undoubtedly reassured everyone attending the Fally Ipupa concert and showcased the Ministry’s dedication to ensuring public health remains a priority.

As the concert continued, concert-goers were able to enjoy the rest of the evening, knowing that the medical team was on hand to address any unforeseen medical emergencies that might arise.

Indeed, the MoH’s efforts to extend their services and support to events of this magnitude have earned them commendation from the public, who appreciate its assurance and peace of mind.
