The shady deals operated by Fred Sentamu Nyanzi, commonly known as “Chairman Nyanzi,” who is a brother to the National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader, Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi, will be the major downfall of the party.

During private interviews carried out on July 30, 2024, at the NUP party headquarters at Makerere-Kavule in Kampala, some members of the party who preferred anonymity revealed that there are a lot of dirty dealings going on in the party activities where the party leader entrusted his brother Nyanzi to be in charge of.

“We as the core founding members of this party are worried about the shady deals that are mostly occastrated by Chairman Nyanzi. From the mobilization activities where known thugs are paid to be among the foot soldiers who have caused a lot of damage during these mobilization activities to acquiring the party assets. We are worried of what the party will become now that the auditor’s reports are coming out to show these shady deals,” a member revealed.

Some sources within NUP revealed that the party is being run by the brothers, and a few people are benefiting from these shady dealings, stating that there is no financial transparency in the party.

“Very few members know of how the party finances are being used; the rest are in the dark. It’s the brother and friends of the party president who benefit from making procurements for the party. This is a dangerous move since it could lead to mistrust from its members,” the sources disclosed.

This comes after the Auditor General released a report on how the NUP party used the finances it receives from the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Interparty Organization for Dialogue (IPOD). NUP received 3.1 billion from the EC.
