Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, has announced that he will deny party flags to some NUP MPs who did not visit him during his recent hospitalization at Nsambya Hospital.

Bobi Wine expressed feelings of hurt over the absence of certain MPs during his time in the hospital. He stated that MPs who did not check on him or visit him will face consequences when it comes to receiving party flags for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the NUP Deputy Spokesperson, explained that Kyagulanyi is very upset with the MPs for not showing support during his illness. He emphasized that being part of the party means standing together in both good and bad times.

“Those who cannot uphold that will have no place in our party,” Mufumbiro said.

However, some party members disagree. Abed Bwanika, the MP for Kimaanya Kabonera in Masaka City, downplayed the significance of the situation. He claimed that Bobi Wine’s injury was not serious enough to warrant a visit and accused him of trying to gain sympathy from the public for political advantage.

“Bobi Wine’s political influence is deteriorating, and the hospitalization seems more like a tactic to draw sympathy from international supporters for funds, as he often plays the politics of drama,” said Bwanika.

Political experts have weighed in on this situation, advising political parties to be cautious with such incidents. They highlighted concerns about growing divisions within the NUP party due to threats and questionable leadership from Kyagulanyi.

As the party prepares for the 2026 elections, the relationship between Bobi Wine and some of his MPs may face further scrutiny and challenges.
