Another UPDF Soldier Shoots Civilian Dead in Bukwo District

Another Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier has been arrested today, July 17th, 2023, for the murder of a civilian in Bukwo district.

The suspect, identified as corporal Lawrence Sibiwa, attached to the 51 Infantry Battalion, is in custody after killing Fred Kwemoi, a civillan resident from Taboswet village in Bukwo district.

According to Maj. Isaac Oware,the third division spokesperson confirmed that the incident occurred along Kapachorwa-Bukwo-Suam Road at China State Construction Company, where the two had a brawl that resulted into the shooting.

“The incident occurred along the Kapchorwa-Bukwo road, and it is alleged that Kwemoi was intercepted and shot on suspicion as a fight ensued between the deceased and the soldier who was asked to guard road equipment, Oware said.

Oware stated that it is an unfortunate incident, and this comes only two days after CPL Avugo Lomuro, a member of the Air Force Evacuation component, attacked the mountain division signal department, shot and killed two of his colleagues, and injured another in Fort Portal town.
