Gov’t Extends Deadline For Student’s Loan Application

Government has extended deadline for submitting student loans application.

Previously, the deadline was scheduled for 30th November 2021 by the Higher Education Students Financing Board, a body tasked to manage the initiative under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on behalf of government.

On Monday, Michael Wanyama, the Executive Director of the Board said the extension shall run until 15th January, 2022.

He adds that the extension shall enable students who had missed the deadline including those waiting for applications from Public Universities, persons with disabilities and students from Karamoja region which is considered hard to reach area to apply for the fund.

“The eligible applicants are Uganda students who have been admitted to offer undergraduate degree and diploma programs during and degrees in this current financial year of 2021/2022 in Public, Private universities and other tertiary institutions,” Mr. Wanyama said.

Wanyama further notes that whereas the deadline was slated for 30th November 2021, the board has established that some Institutions of higher learning had just concluded student’s admission process while others are yet to complete or even start the process.

He also announced that the board shall release the list of successful applicants who submitted their applicants within the first deadline by 20th December 2021.

The board has since inception awarded funds (loan) to 11,187 beneficiaries including the 9,632 students who successfully undertook Undergraduate degrees and the 1,555 who offered undergraduate diplomas.
