Season of Political Posturing is Back
Social media has been awash of photos of Kizza Besigye being arrested by police after he attempted to illegally hold a procession to Namboole stadium on Monday.

The perennial presidential elections loser and former president of the Forum for Democratic change had been scarce on the public political scene.

However only a few weeks ago he launched his Twerwaneko campaign aimed at instigating violence against security agents ahead of the 2021 elections.

Beaigye is a known violence instigator and always targets the period around election to hold his public stunts.

It is also known that he receives funding from international donors to run his campaigns and publicised running battles with police is his means of accounting for said funds.

It is also no coincidence that he launched his latest violent campaigns after a visit of Europe.

It is also not a coincidence that besigye has picked a time when his popularity and turf had been encroached on by Bobi Wine of people power.

The battles with the anti riot police are bound to increase in regularity and intensity since this is the only way besigye can remain relevant in the Ugandan political sphere and also ensure his meager political constituency is not cannibalized by other new actors.

Violence is also the only way beaigye can connect with a mass of disillusioned class of unemployed youth in Kampala.
While others have preached development programs like the youth livelihood project by the NRM, besigye has no known programs or plans for the same.

Instead , just as he declared publicly, this is the beginning of the post ur in season where many will do anything to remain relevant so as to continue to attract funding for their own personal projects.

What we witnessed on Monday is mere choreographed political posturing aimed at demarcating political turf ahead of the political silly season.
