While meeting the area local leaders from the region during a meeting held in Butaleja district on Saturday, November 9th, 2024, the President said wetland should be preserved.

According to the President, a large wetland area in Bukedi region has been encroached upon by the residents. He guided that the leaders should mobilize local residents to abandon rice growing in the wetlands and embrace fish farming.

The president noted that the government is consulting on the possibility of supporting residents in establishing fish ponds.

“Fish ponds should be dug at the edge of the wetlands but not in the middle. You can make more money from fish farming,” the president said.
