The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine has released a new music video, together with Nubian Li and a South African group called World Funk Orchestra, condemning alleged injustice against the LGBTQ people in Uganda and Africa at large.
In the music video of the song titled ‘Such a Beautiful Day,’ which is filled with LGBTQ symbols like rainbow colors, among others, Bobi Wine expressed solidarity to all those who stand against injustices against the LGBTQ people with artistic words scribed in rainbow colors.
After premiering the video on October 17, 2024, Bobi Wine told a South African entertainment news channel that the song is a musical collaboration that welcomes the global music community to celebrate love, freedom, and joy.
He emphasized that ‘love is love’ no matter the race or sex orientation, adding that for decades LGBTQ people in Uganda and Africa as a continent have faced grave injustices, and it is important for him as a new generation leader to fight for their rights.
Bobi Wine, once known for his controversial views on LGBTQ issues, has undergone a significant transformation in his stance over the years. In the early days of his music career, he faced criticism for songs that were perceived as homophobic, including a song called ‘Batty Man” that advocated for violence against gay individuals.
However, as Bobi Wine transitioned into the realm of elective politics, his views began to shift. Observers link this change to a broader political strategy that seeks international support and funding. Observers suggest that aligning himself with liberal causes, including LGBTQ rights, could enhance his political capital, especially abroad.
