The family of the ailing Deputy Party president of the National Unity Platform, NUP in charge of Western region, Jolly Mugisha, has accused her own party leaders, including Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, of neglecting her.
A source said ever since Mugisha became sick, NUP leaders have never delivered on the promise to take her abroad for specialized treatment.
The source confirmed that Mugisha, who fell sick in July 2024, has not received any support from the NUP secretariat even after Kyagulanyi and SGLewis Rubongoya visited her while in ICU at Mbarara hospital.
“On 28, August 2024, Kyagulanyi and Rubongoya visited Jolly in Mbarara hospital while she was still in ICU, and after we had a meeting where Robert Kyagulanyi promised that Jolly would be flown to Aga Khan hospital for specialized treatment, in the past two weeks we have been trying to get in touch with them, Lewis, but all in vain,” said the source.
Bright Muhumuza, a close friend to Jolly, and the NUP coordinator for the Kigezi region said that Jolly Mugisha’s condition is worrying, and it will be sad to lose her when her NUP party can fulfill their promise.
The NUP Secretary Genera, Rubongoya, while talking to the press on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Magere, said they are aware of Mugisha’s sickness, but fortunately they currently have no money to fund her medical bills abroad.
“It’s true we visited Mugisha in Mbarara and her situation is worsening, but as a party we are still limited on cash, and when the money gets available we shall consider her,” Rubongoya said.
Jolly Mugisha, who has been hospitalized in Mbarara since July, has a medical condition that requires at least Shs45 million to take her to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. Currently, family members are fundraising for the required funds using social media forums.
