Henry Musasizi, the minister of state for General duties, has called upon internal auditors to move away from traditional compliance and retrospective auditing methods and adopt a more proactive approach.
During the annual general meeting of the Local Government Internal Auditors Association held on November 9, 2023, at the Colline Hotel in Mukono, Musasizi emphasized the need for auditors to remain current and address emerging threats that may not have been previously encountered or may pose complex challenges.
While retrospective auditing plays a vital role in ensuring controls are in place and functioning effectively, Musasizi stressed that organizations must be prepared to tackle unprecedented risks. He urged auditors to enhance and uphold crucial values such as integrity, courage, service excellence, and teamwork.
“This Association and the Profession must enhance and promote values like Integrity, courage, service excellence and teamwork,” Musasizi said.
Musasizi assured the government of Uganda’s commitment to supporting the internal audit function at the central and local government levels, highlighting the importance of fostering strong partnerships between auditors and government entities.
As the business landscape rapidly evolves, the call for auditors to shift from retrospective auditing to a more forward-looking, risk-oriented approach aims to enhance efficiency and enable more proactive risk management strategies.
