The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) have tightened security in the country, especially in Kasese District, as they launched an operation to track down the Allied Democratic Forces(ADF), suspected to have killed two tourists and their guide while at Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, confirmed that stringent measures and checkpoints have been established to apprehend ADF remnants attempting to infiltrate the country.

“We have inserted both physical and technical assets to hunt down the criminals, and we are on the trail to ensure that the attackers are apprehended,” Kulaigye said.

He encouraged the tourism sector not to be alarmed by the unfortunate act, promising that the occurrence would not repeat itself.

“We have put more technical measures in the National Parks to ensure that such terrorist attacks never happen again,” he said.

“As UPDF, we are working with the Uganda Wild Life Authority security to keep tourists safe as they enjoy the scenery in Uganda,” Kulaigye added.

Kulaigye urged Ugandans at the Uganda-DRC border to be vigilant of ADF rebels who may be fleeing the country as they run away from the UPDF.

“Although we have deployed heavy security to mitigate the ADF attacks, I urge Ugandans to be each other’s keepers and be on the lookout for suspected ADF rebels,” he noted.

This follows a directive by President Yoweri K. Museveni, instructing the UPDF, police, and intelligence agencies to ensure such a cowardly act does not happen again.
