The Anti-Corruption Court has found three Hoima District officials guilty of forgery and sentenced them.

According to the Anti-Corruption Unit, the three officials forged executive committee minutes, alleging that they had been authorised to hire out road equipment to private individuals.

However, they illegally hired out district road equipment to a businessman in Kiryandongo District and kept the proceedings.

The officials include Vice Chairperson Chiche Benson, Secretary for Production Magambo Jackson, and Secretary for Finance Kumakech Geoffrey.

In 2021, police, in liaison with the Anti-Corruption Unit, arrested the officials after a complaint was received that the accused were allegedly hiring out a vibral roller and grader.

“Working together with the police, the matter was investigated, and the equipment was recovered and handed over to the Ministry of Works,” the Anti-Corruption Unit said.

The accused have been sentenced to pay a UGX5 million cash fine each.

Using government property for personal gains contradicts government regulations and is punishable by 5 years’ imprisonment and 10 years without holding government office.
