Minister Kabanda Reaffirms Govt’s Commitment to Improve Road Status in Kampala

While on a road tour on Friday, July, 28, 2023, Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Minister, Hon. Hajat Minsa Kabanda, accompanied by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Ms. Dorothy Kisaka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the city with efficient and well-maintained roads.

The duo conducted an inspection tour of various roads within the city to assess the progress and quality of ongoing road rehabilitation works.

“Our aim is to promote environmental concerns by keeping Kampala roads litter-free in order to promote the city’s beauty and overall public health while focusing on maintaining clean surroundings and proper waste disposal,” Minister Kabanda emphasised.

They also revealed significant developments on key roads, marking a crucial step towards a cleaner and more efficient city.

Kampala city roads rehabilitation project, under the African Development Bank (ADB) projects, is undertaking the task of constructing over 69 kilometres of roads with smoother and more efficient transport routes for citizens.

Currently, progress on Kabega Road, Makindye, is at 80% completion. Works on this stretch include the installation of drainage systems, the laying of asphalt, and the building of walkways, all aiming to enhance safety and convenience for pedestrians and motorists alike.

In Nakawa Division, the team toured Portbell Road, Spring Road, and Old Port Bell Road, which also revealed significant work in progress.

In the Industrial Area, 5th Street, 6th Street, 7th Street, and 8th Street are slated for rehabilitation.

Local leaders in these areas expressed their excitement and appreciation for the ongoing road projects. The Mayor of Nakawa Division, Paul Mugambe, highlighted the positive impact these developments will have on the community, while Makindye Division’s Mayor, Ali Mulyanyama, underscored how the improved infrastructure would enhance the residents’ livelihoods.

The contractor is currently conducting forward maintenance work to address existing issues before actual reconstruction begins.
