Mayuge: Police Arrests Woman For Killing Niece Over Poor Grades

Police in Mayuge District, have arrested one Byogero Aisha, a 22-year-old female adult, on allegations of torturing her six-year-old niece to death.

Byogero, a resident of Mauma “A” village in Busakila sub-county in Mayuge district, is accused of physically beating her niece, Mutesi Mariam, in a torture incident.

According to SCP Fred Enanga, the police Spokesperson, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who stays with the victim, punished her after school for performing poorly at her school and class.

“We continue to remind the public that torture and aggressive punishment of children are punishable by law. Therefore, all parents and guardians are advised to desist from corporal punishment and other forms of physical punishment,” said Enanga.

Enanga condemned the act of torture and said the suspect will be arraigned before courts of law to answer the case of causing death by aggravated torture. She also urged parents to refrain from resuscitative torture of children and desist from any corporal punishment as this is punishable by law.

The victim who cried for help was rescued by neighbours but  who was shortly pronounced dead on arrival at the nearby clinic where she was rushed for treatment.
