Anti-Corruption Court Remands Bukedea Officials for Negligence of office

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit together with the Police have arraigned and remanded the Bukedea RDC, Tukei Wilberforce, and DPC SP Charles Koto on charges of negligence to prevent a felony.

The arrested were arraigned at Bukedea Magistrate Court today, July 16, 2023, and remanded till July 27, 2023, to Bukedea Prisons, presided over by Mukimba Kimono.

“As a result of its continuing investigations into unlawful and criminal acts that took place during the LCV chairperson by-election, we have remanded the government officials till later in July, the corruption unit said.

This follows the letter written by President Museveni to the head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, condemning the injustice showcased in the Bukedea by-elections and ordering their immediate arrest.

“I have got some disturbing information about the recent by-election in Bukedea LCV chairperson, where our NRM candidate won. However, I am getting information that government officials attacked Mr. Omagor, an aspirant, stole over Shs150 million, and confiscated his academic papers. I am therefore directing you to handle the criminals,” Museveni said.

Steven Omagor, one of the aspirants for the LCV Chairperson by-election, was assaulted on June 6, 2023, as he approached the Electoral Commission gate at Bukedea to present himself for nomination as a candidate for the LCV Chairperson by-election.

The Bukedea district RDC, Mr. Wilberforce Tukei, and DPC SP Charles Okoto were arrested last Monday, July 10, 2023, for neglecting the case of Omagor’s torture.
