15 Suspects Escape from Custody at Rwampara Central Police Station

The police at Rwampara Central Police Station (CPS) are investigating the incident under which 15 suspects escaped from their lawful custody.

The incident took place on July 16th 2023, at Rwampara CPS in Buteraniro-Nyeiha town council located in Rwampara District.

According to CP Anthony Akankwatsa, One of the police officers, the incident happened in the morning of Sunday, when the suspects managed to break out of the male police cells through the hole they had dug from inside.

“I heard the Rwampara police dog barking in an unusual way, and on coming out of the counter to see what was happening, I realised that the male police cell was broken and the suspects had escaped through the hole they had dug inside,” Akankwatsa narrated.

Akankwatsa said that some of the suspects who had escaped from custody were involved in various crimes like theft, violence, drug abuse, defilement, and many others.

The police, including the district police commander, criminal investigation Division team, visited the scene of the crime and conducted a search operation to re-arrest the suspects.
