The National Unity Platform (NUP) party’s national mobilizer and the head of the informal political sector at Kamwokya, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, has escalated mobilization to promote the rights of the LGBTQ community.

A source at the NUP headquarters revealed that Nyanzi’s latest pro-LGBTQ activism aims at regaining his political strength and relevance.

Nyanzi, who’s also the elder brother to NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, is said to be using both mainstream and social media houses to popularize gay rights activism.

According to sources, Nyanzi is the architect of the Kunga political campaign that was recently launched by NUP to attract public sympathy and hence regain his political influence, especially within the central region of Uganda.

“Chairman Nyanzi is using the human rights activism under the KUNGA campaign to revive his influence both within the party and among the population,” Source said.

Nyanzi, who ran in 2021 for Kampala Central Member of Parliament on the NUP ticket, was defeated by then-incumbent and independent candidate Muhammad Nsereko.

He rushed to court, challenging Nsereko’s victory, hoping for a turnaround, but his hope for the Parliament seat was cut short after the court dismissed his petition, and he was eventually ordered to pay UGX 38 million as compensation costs to his political rival.

It is understood that the NUP mobilizer is using the youth, especially those from ghetto slums, to carry out riots and confront security personnel in order to gain political sympathy from the population.
