Leaders in Sebei and Bugisu regions have vowed to reward  President Museveni for initiating the Zonal Industrial Hub Program, which aims at curbing the unemployment problem among youths through skilling.

The remarks were made on Sunday, January 8, 2023, in Kween district in eastern Uganda during the graduation ceremony of 431 youths who had completed a six-month skilling program in different disciplines.

The graduands received training in numerous fields, including baking, tailoring, knitting, weaving, shoemaking, hairdressing, welding, masonry, and carpentry, among others, with support from the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT).

“This is one of the President Museveni’s initiatives that aim to benefit the local people.” “I commend him for always giving back to the community,” said MP William Chemonges of Kween County.

During the second graduation ceremony held at the Bugisu zonal industrial hub in Mbale, 215 students received certificates after completing the six-month training.

“But skilling, on the other hand, is also the most sustainable medication for the disease of unemployment.” Therefore, I particularly thank President Museveni for correctly diagnosing the unemployment disease,” Boniface Okot, chairperson of the parliamentary youth forum, said.

Jane Barekye, the state house comptroller stated that they are going to equip the common user facilities with all equipment needed for the next intakes.

The leaders also appealed to the government to provide the youths with startup kits to enable them to create their own jobs.

“We credit President Museveni for the skilling program that has the power to transform the lives of Bazzukulu by equipping them with both applicable and employable skills that can accord them financial independence and introduce them to the all-important money economy,” Raymond Kamugisha, the director of presidential projects and industrial hubs, said.

He added that the initiative aims to support the Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) policy of import substitution.
