75 Youths from Eastern and Northern Regions to Receive FAWE Bursaries

The Forum for Women Educationalist (FAWE) Uganda chapter has pledged to provide 75 university bursaries to support youths from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and regions of Eastern and Northern Uganda for the academic year 2023/2024.

According to the official FAWE statement, the programme will choose students from the districts of Namayingo, Napak, Kween, Amuria, Abim, Luuka, Nwoya, Agago, and Moyo.

The statement added that the programme is being implemented in partnership with three universities: Busitema, Gulu, and Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), in addition to Uganda Technical College (Elgon), Medical Laboratory Technology Training School, and Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery.

In the statement, the programme’s goal is to help students from the chosen districts finish their higher education.

“The objective of the programme is to enable students from the selected districts to complete higher education, provide academic and psycho-social support, and facilitate pathways for the students to do internships, industrial practice, and get employment,” reads part of the statement.

The bursary will provide students with comprehensive financial, academic, and social support throughout the course of their studies.

The following are the criteria to be used: The applicant must be between 18 and 25 years old, must have sat ordinary or Advanced levels in 2020, 2021, or 2022, must apply for direct entry into the partner institution, must be born in and a resident of any of the programme districts, among other requirements.

The following program areas of study require applicants to be qualified for admission, degree 3–4 years in Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Medical Courses, Education Science Courses, diploma 2 years in Civil Engineering, Water engineering, electrical engineering, nursing, medical laboratory technology, and a certificate in Midwifery for 2.5 years.

However, the application forms are free of charge at the offices of the Academic Registrars of the three universities and the two health training institutions.

The applicants are further advised to find application forms at the District Education Offices in the nine programme districts and download them from the FAWE Uganda website through the link :www.faweuganda.org.
The deadline for applications is July 14, 2023, after which no applications will be accepted.

FAWE Uganda works with multi-sectoral stakeholders to improve the quality of education, access, retention, and completion in Uganda.
