πΊπ¬Β More learners embracing UPE- Minister Janet Museveni
π Speaking at the release of the exams on Friday at State House Nakasero, the Education Minister, Janet Museveni said the results indicate that more learners are enrolling in UPE schools around the country.Β
βThe statistics show a rise in confidence that the people of Uganda have put in UPE. This is because the number of pupils benefiting from UPE has increased by 1.7%. As UPE celebrates 25 years, it is heartwarming to know our people are benefiting from this Government program,β Mrs Museveni said.Β

πThe UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo on Friday January 27, during the official release of 2022 PLE results said that in 2022, more candidates obtained Division 1 and Division 2. Odongo added that the overall pass levels are comparable between the two years, in terms of numbers, 714,702 candidates passed the PLE compared to 659,910 the previous year. Odongo said PLE results can be accessible by Parents and candidates from the Examination Center Portals using Short Message Services (SMS).Β

πAs Government prepares to come out with a position over the school fees structure before the new term starts next week, the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni has told schools to be considerate to parents and not increase school fees. The First Lady made the remarks during the release of the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) on Friday January 27, 2023. According to the results summary, more candidates obtained Division 1 and Division 2 than in 2020.Β

πThe UPDF Mountain Division Commander Maj. Gen Dick Olum on Thursday urged commanders and staff officers in his division to be exemplary in their areas of deployment in order to leave a legacy that will stand the test of time. He was at the handover/takeover ceremony of the office of the UPDF mountain division operations and training officer (DOTO). He thanked the outgoing Col. Rogers Okiror for steering the office for the last two years.Β

πΊπ¬ Gynaecologists want policy for mandatory testing of adolescent girls
πExperts who treat Womens diseases, especially those related to reproductive organs (Gynecologists), want the Government to introduce mandatory medical check-ups policy for adolescent girls to reduce the spread of reproductive-related diseases. Dr. Rogers Mafuna, a Gynecologist from Skyline Medical Chambers in Mengo said Thursday that women have different effects that infect them ranging from different ages. School-going children should be prioritised to control infections in school.Β
πΊπ¬ IGANGA: NARO unveils maize varieties resistant to striga weed
πIn a bid to fight striga weed that has ravaged maize plantations in Busoga region, the National Agriculture and Research Organization (NARO) has unveiled eight new varieties of maize which are resistant to the mentioned weed. Researchers led by Charles Lwanga explain that the new maize varieties have been under experiment in demonstration gardens set up in Iganga district.Β

πResidents in Pajwenda Town Council and Mukuju Sub County are worried by the outbreak of the Army worms that have destroyed crops in Bira, Pajwenda, Panyirenja and Amor wards in Pajwenda Town Council. Other parishes affected are Sere, Mwenge and Kisia in Mukuju Sub County. The residents have appealed to authorities to address the situation.

πThe State Minister for Works and Transport, Hon Musa Ecweru on Wednesday commissioned the Bunadasa-Bugiboni Bridge at Bugiboni Village in Buyala Parish, Buyobo sub county along Mutufu- Buyobo road. The bridge connects six sub-counties in Sironko District. Hon Isaiah Ssaaga, the Budadiri East MP applauded the Government for the bridge will enable farmers to transport their produce to find the market.Β Β
πΊπ¬ MUKONO: Gen. Katumba Wamala launches construction of two roads
πThe Minister of works and transport Hon. Gen Katumba Wamala on Thursday presided over the launch of the construction of Kiterende -Kyabazaala roads and Nkoko – Kasawo roads. Present was RDC, Hon. Bakalumba Mukasa, area councillors and the contractors of the road. The RDC advised the community to work hand in hand with the contractor. The contractor is set to finish the works by January of 2024.

πTwo Namisindwa District technical officers, Bukhabusi Sub County Chief, Jenerious Nakhaima, and Sub County accountant Martin Bwaobi are currently in police custody over embezzling Ugx8 million meant for community demand driven (CDD) program. The. According to Julie Namara, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Namisindwa District, the two were arrested on Tuesday, after beneficiaries under CDD program from Bubutu Sub County reported them to the office of the RDC.

π KENYA: No more 50/50 share of property during divorce, Court rules
πThe Supreme Court of Kenya has ruled that spouses are not entitled to a 50/50 share of matrimonial assets after divorceΒ because distribution of property is solely based on individual contributions. In the event of separation, each partner must prove their contribution to enable a court to determine the percentage available to them. The Court also stated that while Article 45(3) of the Constitution deals with equality of the fundamental rights of spouses during the dissolution of a marriage, such equality does not mean the re-distribution of proprietary rights or an assumption that spouses are automatically entitled to a 50 percent share by fact of being married.

πPolice in Tanzania have allayed fears of impending terrorist attack threats in the countryβs commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, and other areas. In a statement issued by the Police force spokesperson David Misime, the force called for citizens to remain calm and continue with their daily activities. On January 25, the US embassy in Tanzania published a security alert regarding high traffic areas frequented by Westerners in Dar es Salaam and elsewhere in Tanzania.

πRwandaβs Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Vincent Biruta has told Parliament that the country is ready to defend its territorial integrity against any invasion. Birutaβs remarks came two days after a warplane from DR Congo violated Rwandaβs airspace for the third time in three months forcing the Rwanda Defence Force to shoot at it.

πM23 Rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo claim to have taken the key town of Kitshanga after three days of intense clashes with government forces.

πΒ MADAGASCAR: Tropical storm kills 16 people
π The European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations said on Thursday that a tropical storm followed by heavy rainfall has killed at least 16 people in Madagascar. Seventeen people remain missing after Tropical Storm Cheneso hit, according to the Office for Risk and Disaster Management, emergency services say. Some 47,000 people are affected, while 13,000 houses and some 100 classrooms are damaged, the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations said.
