WOLRD CUP 2022: Life lessons from the breathless, staggering finals

FIFA president Gianni Infantino ranked the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, which began on November 20 and ended on December 18, 2022, as the best world cup ever held.

“The World Cup has shown a unique, cohesive power, and I thank all the workers and volunteers involved for helping to make it the best World Cup ever,” Gianni said.

This is more similar to what has come from football addicts in the entire world because of the unpredictable behavior of this year’s tournament since its commencement.

African countries such as Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal, and Morocco, among others, won consecutive matches against fancy English teams, making this year’s world cup tournament breathless, staggering, and magnificent, where life lessons can be drawn from abroad.

Following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, it’s crucial to understand that talent is great, but hard work wins. It’s with no doubt that it was talent that catapulted the two darling “goats,” such as Messi of Argentina and Mbappe of France, into the finals. The duo were custodians of victory and glory for each team.

Their hard work was evidenced when the two teams played toe-to-toe and no one accepted to take a back step for over 120 minutes of play. That’s nothing but hard work.

The discipline exhibited by players, including those who played prior to the finals, indicates that discipline is a key contributor to success.

Football is one of the provocative games that sometimes involves fights between not only those on the pitch but also supporters in any place because of humiliating acts of the winners or unfair decisions of the referee, but in this just-concluded tournament in Qatar, many sports experts have ranked it as the most calm and professional tournament.

The world cup finals this year also show that you need others to succeed because cooperation and teamwork are important skills in football and other areas.

It is true that the real battle was mainly between Mbappe and Messi, but imagine how disgusting and disappointing the World Cup would be if only Messi and Mbappe manifested themselves on the pitch to play. You will always become a superstar in the presence of those who are ahead of you, and without them, you cease to be one.

It’s also pivotal to acknowledge that anything is possible if you take the risks, just as Mbappe continued to penetrate into the goalbox of Argentina, which was guarded like a king’s palace. With a risk-taking heart, Mbappe managed to equalize with a stunning volley in 81 minutes.

I realized that practice truly makes perfect. The international sports experts, while appearing on television, revealed that all teams that participated in the World Cup were subjected to endless training for years to play only for 29 days. If you want to improve, whether in your studies, sports, or work, you will only do so with enough practice.

It is also paramount to celebrate your victory. Social media platforms, mostly Twitter, were bombarded by a mixture of tweets, where some joined World Champion Argentina in kissing the trophy as those of France became cold-blooded, which catapulted them into a hibernation mood.

Nothing lasts forever, and because the final game was so long, it was difficult to imagine its conclusion, even though it was called the finals.

The regular 90-minute period was insufficient to determine the winner, so the game went to penalties, where Argentina was crowned world champion in a shootout 4-2.

There are numerous lessons to learn from the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but as an African football addict whose expectations were frustrated by Morocco’s exit, I was left with no option but to grasp lessons from the nerve-racking tournament that can benefit me most.
