Who is Kirk Franklin: Gospel Star Set to Perform in Uganda

Kirk Franklin, the award-winning gospel artist, has arrived in Uganda ahead of his much-anticipated performance at Makerere University’s main sports ground on August 16, 2024. He touched down at Entebbe International Airport accompanied by fellow artists from Maverick City Music, as part of their “Kingdom World Tour Africa,” which kicked off in South Africa.

A pioneer in contemporary gospel, hip-hop, and R&B, Kirk Franklin has been a transformative figure in the music industry for over three decades. At 54 years old, he boasts an impressive collection of accolades, including 20 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most celebrated artists in gospel music history.

Franklin’s musical journey began in a church choir, where he quickly rose through the ranks to become choir director by the age of 11. His debut album, Kirk Franklin & Family, released in 1993, marked the beginning of a prolific career that has seen him lead several influential contemporary gospel choirs, including Kirk Franklin & the Family, Kirk Franklin’s Nu Nation, and God’s Property.

With a record of 13 albums to his name, Franklin continues to innovate and inspire. His latest release, Father’s Day, came out on October 14, 2023, further solidifying his status as a leading voice in gospel music.

Beyond his musical achievements, Franklin is a devoted family man. He is married to Tammy Franklin, and together they have two children, in addition to two children from previous relationships.

Following the Uganda performance, the tour will continue to Ghana on August 18, 2024, promising to spread the uplifting message of gospel music across the continent. Fans eagerly await the chance to experience Kirk Franklin’s dynamic performance.
